Color Black

A young boy stands in the entrance hall of his house.
His name is Derek Raines, and he's 14 years old. Ever since he was 8, he's been home alone, as his parents never returned from a surprise shopping trip given to them from their neighbors, the Wilcores.
The Wilcores havent returned either, making the neighborhood a pretty boring place to be.
Even though he doesn't know this, Derek lives in a world of black and white. To Derek, things have always been this way. And because colors don't exist, he wouldn't have it any other way, and nothing would ever happen for him to change his mind about color or lack thereof.
When Derek isn't standing in his hallway staring with his back to the ridiculously large flower photo he never took down after his parents disappeared, he's usually in his room, listening to records on his phonograph. He  currently is housing an unhealthy obsession with David Bowie and every shirt he has has a picture of Bowie on it.
There's a Starman waiting in the sky to take Derek to see David Bowie is what he'd like to think.

Derek decides to walk into his room.
